5 things I’ve Been Loving Lately

1. This top and base coat combo

I just started using it two weeks ago, but it’s difficult as nails! The base coat is Essie grow stronger ($9), and the top coat is Dior Gel coat ($28, yes, it’s kinda fancy schmancy).

I wore it last week with Smith & Cult Bitter Buddhist. Side note: This is my favorite green polish of all time (even much more than Chanel Jade), and I have a lot of greens. It’s a sensational sea-foamy jade that looks baby blue sometimes. I wear it all the time. Szeretem!

I didn’t have a single chip for seven full days, but then a big chunk came off in the shower on the eighth day. but that’s terrific for me (I’m difficult on my nails). Whenever I can get a full week from a mani/pedi without any chipping, I feel like I ought to throw a parade, LOL.

Even though I actually only want to wear Bitter Buddhist because the obsession is real and ongoing, I’m gonna try this base/top coat combo with different polishes over the next few week to see if other polishes hold up as well.

2. Bread recipes

I’ve been stockpiling them for days because I want to try baking bread this weekend for the very first time.

As of best now, I’ve tentatively chose on this artisan bread recipe from Laura in the Kitchen. It looks easy enough (famous last words)… I think I can deal with it.

Obvs, this has all been brought about by The terrific British baking Show, which I still view every night before bed.

Right before I start making the dough this weekend, I want El Hub to say, “On your mark, get set…BAKE!”

3. hourglass Arch Brow Gel

MIT!? This stuff is good! (Here’s the review, BTW). I love filling in my brows with it, and I want to shout it from the rafters. “I love hourglass Arch Brow Gel!!!” In the three weeks I’ve been using it, I haven’t touched the brow pencil/clear brow gel combo I had been using and wearing daily in some form or fashion for three YEARS (most recently it was MAC Brow Sculpt brow pencil and the benefit clear Brow Gel).

It’s that serious. love it for bushy, natural-looking brows, especially.

4. Senita’s new dance-inspired spring collection

I used to be one of those people who believed that workout wear ought to stay in the gym.

Nem több.

Now that 99% of the outfits I wear on a daily basis 1) include Lycra and 2) can deal with burpies or squats at any given moment (I kneel about 3,647 times a day to pick up Connor because she wants to be carried 24/7. I’m like, “Kid, you’ve got legs! You ought to use them!”), I no longer subscribe to that belief system.

Senita is an indie workout line from Arizona, and their clothes are well made, good deals, and I think they’re CUTE. I have quite a few of their pieces, and I love everything. Their capris are in the $37 range, so that’s compared to lululemons at $89 and Zellas at $49. and they’re just as good as Zella IMO.

Their new collection was inspired by dance and yoga, and I want IT ALL. SO much pink and black. and they have dresses…WITH POCKETS!

5. Foam rolling

My HIIT teacher got me hooked on this, and now I “foam roll” every night (well, I try to!), because it’s like getting a deep-tissue massage before bed. Ingyen. My muscles feel loose and unwinded afterwards, and when I do it consistently, I promise I sleep better, too.

Here are a couple of foam rolling workouts I like to do…

That’s it for me! Those are my five at the moment. és veled mi van? What are some things you’ve been loving lately?

5 things I’ve Been Loving Lately

The scent of summer
1. The smell of Coppertone Waterbabies

To quote master wordsmith Nelly, “It’s getting hot in hurr.”

Today was 89 degrees! last week it was 25 degrees cooler, but this week it’s starting to feel a lot like summer. I try to take Connor out good and early to wear her little booty out, but before we go, I slather this sunscreen all over her and myself. This stuff always makes me think of summer and long lazy days at the beach. Szeretem.

2. turn and learn

I discussed this Ted Talk in the last Saturday Surfing, but if you missed it, please view it now. Or whenever you can. I think it’s so helpful!

The gist of it is to think of the things in your life that you’d like to change as opportunities to learn. Like, for example, if you’re bad at time management (LIKE ME!!!), instead of thinking, “I should be broken. I’m so bad at time management. There’s for sure something wrong with me,” think of it instead as a chance for you to learn some of the myriad of valuable time management suggestions and skills that are out there. (And no, you are not broken.) Eventually, you’ll hit on a suggestion or technique that works for you and helps you get better.

3. MAC studio fix mixed with MAC Strobe Cream

Why do I always try to reinvent the wheel when this combo is such an oldie but a goodie?

MAC studio fix fluid — old-school effective!
I’ve been sheering it out, so it’s much more Strobe cream and less studio fix Foundation, but it’s still just enough to give me a little bit of even-ness and a lot of glow.

4. Ayesha’s home kitchen on Food Network

Don’t know if you’re viewing the basketball ? playoffs best now, but the Warriors are in it (yay, Bay Area!), and one of the players, Stephen Curry, is married to Ayesha Curry, the young lady who hosts this show.

She’s absolutely adorable, and so are her daughters. I haven’t tried any of her recipes yet, but I’m certainly going to, maybe as soon as this weekend.

I like that she takes shortcuts. Like, in some cases she’ll use boxed cake mix or a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, and she’ll jooj them up.

5. Painting

A mindenit! We’re starting our home remodellings soon, and I know that painting is typically one of the steps people do toward the end of whatever they’re doing, but I’ve been having a good time researching paint colors for our place.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to use this color palette I found on a design blog called Maison Pax.

For Connor’s room, I’m thinking of doing one of these blush shades. maybe Behr Stolen Kisses. Haven’t chose yet.

Anyway, I’m thrilled about ?️ paint! Ki vagyok én?!

5 things I’ve Been Loving Lately

See the bun peeking out from the top?
1. Embracing the straw visor

OK, I know, I know. A week ago I was solidly against the oversized packable straw visor, mostly because it reminded me of my glamorous grandma and all of her homies back in the day, but then I watched this favorites video by Dr. Dray (she’s a dermatologist, and she is all about sun protection). She mentions how much she loves her packable straw visor because she can put her hair up in a bun on the top of her head while she wears it! YOU DON’T even know how MIND BLOWING THIS WAS TO ME.

Since my hair is past my shoulders, it’s always a struggle to figure out where to put my bun or ponytail when I’ve got a hat on. I end up wearing buns/ponytails low on the back of my head, but I don’t really love that because then my hair sits against the back of my neck, and I get really hot. Anyway, I ended up going back to Nordstrom rack and grabbing the visor for $15, and I love IT. I wore it today to go hiking, and my hair was off my neck, and it felt really good.

Yes, I have to tilt my head back to see sometimes, ha!
2. finding Rosie in the weirdest places

She’s been getting creative lately with her napping spots. Here’s her new favorite hiding place: Connor’s old play mat, where she keeps some of her stuffed animals (Connor, not Rosie).

I see you, Rosie Pose!
3. The radio station Q-102.1

I try not to get too attached to any radio station here in the SF Bay area because the ones I love just seem to always disappear mysteriously! Seriously, one day you get in your car, turn up your favorite ’90s hip-hop throwback station expecting to hear Lil’ Kim, but then you hear the screech of guitars from a speed metal band instead.

Anyway, I was flipping through the channels in my car the other day, and this station is one of a handful I can actually tolerate. In the span of 10 minutes, I heard Wham’s Careless Whisper, Mariah’s emotions and 2Pac’s California Love. DICSŐ!

4. TJ’s traditional French Brie with sliced Opal apples

THIS COMBO, OMG! After you try it, you’ll love me and hate me at the same time. eating apples with brie is really nothing new, but the TJ’s traditional French Brie will take your breath away. It’s what I like to call “a funkier brie,” so it’s got that pungent, smelly toes aspect to it (which I love), and it’s just so, so soft and creamy. When you eat it with sliced yellow Opal apples, goodness gracious, it’s a heavenly experience.

YUM
5. keeping a small army of sunscreens on hand

I’m earnestly trying very hard to be diligently wearing sunscreen (that’s a lot of adverbs!). I’ve read that it helps to keep a variety of formulas and types on hand, and that’s what I’ve been doing lately.

I think it’s working for me! Previously, I would only keep one or two bottles around the house, but now that I have a bunch of them on hand, it’s been easier to remember to wear sunscreen, especially when I have different options available (spray, lotion, even stick sunscreen) to suit how lazy I’m feeling at any particular moment. Also, now I know I’ll always have some on hand! I used to always wait until I finished a bottle before getting a new one, but now I just always have sunscreen around. It’s kinda cool!

5 things I’ve Been Loving Lately

Nails of the week: Duri burgundy Charade
1. painting my nails with Duri polish

This week’s color is burgundy Charade — which I pronounce “Sha-RHAD,” emphasis on “RHAD,” because lately the only voice I hear in my head is Moira’s on Schitt’s Creek. HAHAHA!

BEBE!

This under-the-radar family-run brand out of Brooklyn is a low-key beast in the best possible way. The polishes are pigmented, smooth, long-lasting and economical (just $8 a bottle). I’ve also been using their top coat and drying drops, and they work terrific too.

SUPER IMPRESSED!

2. Caroline Girvan’s workouts on YouTube

Caroline Girvan’s YouTube workouts are challenging, and she uses very little verbal instruction, so you kinda have to know what you’re doing already, but I sure do love the variety of her exercises.

I’m regularly trying moves I’ve never done before, which I love! challenges ye olde muscles in different ways, ya know?

Also, on days when I can’t manage someone on the other side of a screen yelling at me to dig deep or do one a lot more pushup or whatever, Caroline’s my go-to. Her videos have a short intro where she talks about the workout, but then during the video, all you hear is music and a series of beeps to let you know that a new exercise or a break is coming up while you see her working out on the screen with you.

It’s just me and my breathing, and some days, I like that.

Right now I’m really into her ab and core videos.

3. placing all of my mugs with the handles to the right…

I recently came across this idea in a how-to-organize video, and even though it’s the smallest little tweak, it works wonders! When I do this…my mug shelf looks less chaotic and better organized.

To the right, to the right…
4. speaking of organization videos…

They’re my new favorite how-tos on Youtube. I have a hard time letting go of things and hold onto items longer than I should, and I desperately don’t want to be that person anymore. No a lot more cluttered shelves, baby! Those are my first goals. After that, I’ll do the closets next.

When I enjoy these organizational how-to vids, it feels like I having a personal instructor by my side talking sense into me and telling me that I have the strength to pass on that pair of pants that 1) no longer fit me, and 2) I haven’t worn in five years.

Here are few of my favorites so far.

5. having an electric kettle with hot/warm water always around

Don’t ask me why I’ve always assumed one water had to be cold in buy to be consumed, but it never occurred to me until recently that I could drink water warm whenever I wanted to all throughout the day.

I have an electric kettle on the counter and now just keep it out so that I can get hold of a cup of warm water whenever I want!

Yes, I could easily heat up the water in the microwave, but I vow it tastes different when I warm it up in the kettle.

Speaking of kettles, how cute is this one?
